How Do I Manage?
When I was first promoted as an official manager in my early 20’s, I was very excited and eager for this new challenge. The mortgage company I worked at needed a manager to manager the call center side of the office. I was working there as a commission only rep. Upper manager and the owner noticed my work ethic and strong organization-centric work ethic and promoted me to manager. This was one of the proudest days of my life. My first time becoming a manager.
How did I manage?
Well in my first experience as a manager I managed in a core centric way. I focused on my staff and made sure the weekly goals were met. The section I managed in the office was the call center section of the office. A very important place for generating leads for the rest of the office. Potential sales leads for a mortgage office were crucial during those boom years of the mortgage boom era. Even now, leads are extremely important. I knew my position was important, if I performed well, the call center reps would perform well, and thus the office would perform well, because the sales would flow like a beautiful river.
Thus I managed in a very core-centric way, focusing in on my employees and making the a best effort managing support to ensure the weekly goals were met.
Years later when I finished my business management science degree, I became more polished in my approach. This of course and also combined with additional years of experience in sales and management. Now I take a more balance approach to management, being more collaborative and adjusting my management style to the specific company environment and the specific situations which arise.
Thank you.
